Christmas markets in Scotland 2026 with your dog
Scotland’s Christmas markets run from early November to early January. The Night Market UK in Leith says dogs are welcome, and the castle markets are easy with a dog too: Blair Castle and Drumlanrig Castle both say dogs are welcome outside, and Hopetoun House welcomes dogs in its grounds. Most city markets do not publish a rule for pet dogs, so we say check with the organiser rather than guess.
Dates and dog rules last checked
Dates and rules can change, so check with the organiser before you travel.
Hopetoun House Christmas Shopping Fair, South Queensferry, near Edinburgh
When: Fri 27 to Sun 29 Nov, 10am to 4.30pm
Where: Inside the Main House, with an outdoor food village
Dogs: Hopetoun’s visitor FAQ says dogs are welcome in the grounds on a lead and in the Stables Kitchen, but not inside the House. The fair stalls are in the House, so one of you may need to stay outside with the dog.

Are dogs allowed at Christmas markets in Scotland?

Most city markets, including Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, do not publish a rule for pet dogs, so check with the organiser before you go.
Can I take my dog to the Edinburgh Christmas market?
The organiser says assistance dogs are welcome on all its outdoor sites. It does not publish a rule for pet dogs, so check with Edinburgh’s Christmas before you go. The Night Market UK at the Biscuit Factory in Leith on Fri 27 Nov says dogs are welcome.
Which Scottish Christmas markets are best with a dog?
Castle and estate markets with outdoor stalls and grounds, such as Blair Castle (20 to 22 Nov) and Drumlanrig Castle (4 to 6 Dec), where the organisers say dogs are welcome outside.
Any tips for a busy market with a dog?
Go at a quiet time, such as a weekday morning, keep your dog on a short lead, and watch for dropped food and hot drinks. Busy crowds and fairground noise can be a lot for some dogs.
How we check
We read each organiser’s own page and only include what it says, with the date we checked. Where an organiser says nothing about dogs, we say check with the organiser. If something has changed, tell us on the corrections page.
