Can my dog come on the ferries to Bute, Cowal and Gigha?

Yes. Dogs travel free on CalMac ferries, including Wemyss Bay to Rothesay, Colintraive to Rhubodach, Tarbert to Portavadie and Tayinloan to Gigha, but each one needs a pet ticket added to your booking. Choose a pet lounge ticket to sit inside in the pet area (space is limited and can sell out) or a pet in car ticket if your dog stays in the car or out on deck. Dogs must be on a lead, kept off seats and out of food, drink and carpeted areas. Away from the boats, keep your dog in sight and on a lead near sheep and cattle, as livestock worrying can bring a fine of up to £40,000.

Do dogs need to be on a lead?

Many walks and estates here ask for leads, especially near livestock and ground-nesting birds from April to July. Follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and any local signs.
