NotesWhite sand beaches at the north end of Iona, including the White Strand of the Monks and the Strand of the Seat, reached on foot along the road north of the abbey and through the gate at its end. The National Trust for Scotland asks for dogs to be kept on a lead and livestock to be given space, and the island community asks for dogs to be kept under control, especially with nesting birds. Tides are fast at the White Strand, so swimming is not recommended there. Iona is reached by passenger ferry from Fionnphort on Mull (no cars).
